Leica M9 FAQ's

I can only see the file number in Playback
This will be because you may have set your camera to record only .DNG files with no jpeg display.
Go the the SET button and change your Compression setting to DNG and basic jpeg.
***************************
I can only see the image in Playback with the clipping highlights shown.
Go to the MENU button and scroll down to Histogram
Press SET and select the option to Standard (the top one)
This will show the Histogram as a normal Histogram when required. Switching off the red clipping mask.
****************************
I can't remember how to change the rear display from Black & White display or images.
Go to MENU button, scroll down the menu's until you find COLOR SATURATION option.
Press SET button and scroll to the colour style you would prefer, perhaps Standard.

I thought that the Discreet and Quiet Mode made the camera quieter.
The advance and re-cocking of the shutter is no quieter, unless, you press the shutter release and hold it down until you can put the camera under a jacket or in a bag to deaden the sound of th shutter advance motor. It is more discreet that firing repeatedly with the shutter resetting immediately after the release.
This facility is so useful in churches and places where the sound of the M9 would cause a distraction.

TIP for M9 users
Set your WHITE BALANCE to 5800K in the SET menu, this will give a good midday feel tot he daylight shots you take.
*****************************
I am having difficulty with my M9 recognising a new SD card I have inserted in the card slot to format the card.
This may be due to the level of Firmware you are running on your camera. You may need to update it to the latest level (March 2012) Version 1.176 follow the instructions in your Camera manual for this.
Plese make sure you have a fully charged battery installed in your camera before doing this.

I cannot seem to get the focus quite right on my M9
If you find this situation then please be aware that the M9 has a view-finder dioptre setting of -0.5 as it comes from the factory. It may be that you need a dioptre correction eyepiece lens to rectify this for your own eye-sight.
If you normally need a dioptre correction lens, due to wearing glasses or contact lenses, be aware of this slight difference that this will make to your natural vision prescription.
When getting your next eye sight check done, please be aware that you need to get the measurement for a distance of 2 metres. (Most digital cameras are set for 1 metre, but not the Leica M9)

If all else fails getting to the configuration you need, then press the MENU button and scroll down to RESET press SET following the options, and go back tot he factory settings that were set when you first purchased your Leica M9. Then start again from this base position to configure your camera to your liking.
Our following suggestion should only be taken after a small libation (www.drinkaware.co.uk) or a reasonable time lapse to let your blood pressure calm down, so that you have a good calm working platform to start from.
In the event of complete brain melt-down or total frustration. We recommend that you RTM (Read the Manual) starting at page 92, TABLE OF CONTENTS (English) and refer to the pages that you require for your prefered configuration. (You may need to reset the Language option)
Enjoy the pleasure of using your Leica M9 and M9P
